Background

Public education is the backbone of Montana’s communities, bringing together kids from all backgrounds to form our choirs, sports teams, and science clubs. These shared experiences shape our communities and lay the foundation for our state. But this foundation is cracking. Despite over a $2 billion surplus, the state cut taxes for corporations while raising homeowners’ taxes by $200 million, neglecting public schools. Our teachers are the lowest paid in the country, schools are closing, and some districts cannot find teachers. The legislature’s corporate values are undermining Montana’s values. We all want our kids to have the freedom to succeed but if we don’t fight to uphold our values, our communities will suffer. To help our families and Montana thrive, we must fight for a strong public education system.
