Public School Kids
Public School Kids celebrates the power of public education
and the values that unite us.
With over 90% of kids attending public school, Public School Kids reminds us of what we all share, the American promise of freedom: the freedom to chart our own course, no matter where we come from or what we have.
Public School Kids is about remembering the values that unite us – fairness, opportunity, and community – and asking the question:
Who do we want to be?

Season I: Who Do We Want to Be?
Season I of Public School Kids explores the history of public education as part of America’s original freedom infrastructure. From the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 to the Enabling Act of 1889, public land was set aside to support public schools, weaving education into the foundation of the American experiment.
For generations, Americans believed that educating children together was essential to democracy. Public schools were designed to cultivate citizens, expand opportunity, and ensure that freedom was not reserved for the wealthy, but shared by all.
Through conversations with historians, educators, and civic leaders, this season asks a simple but consequential question:
What binds us together, and what keeps that bond strong?
